The original “Hocus Pocus” received a mixed-to-negative response from critics when it was released in 1993, but has since become a cult classic. “Hocus Pocus 2,” the long-awaited sequel, premiered on Disney+ on September 30, 2022, and once again follows the Sanderson sisters wreaking havoc — but it also features new characters like the feline Cobweb.
Unlike Thackery Binx in the first film, Cobweb is not a cursed talking cat. Director Anne Fletcher vowed that there would be no speaking roles for any felines in the film, but did tease that Binx could appear in different ways than expected, which makes sense since the voice actor Jason Marsden was not expected to return for the sequel.
Cobweb’s owner is a new character, Gilbert, who runs the Olde Salem Magic Shoppe, which was once the home of the evil Sanderson sisters. Audiences will have to light the Black Flame Candle and tune in to see how much this cat character is featured in the film, or if it’s just a quick way for Fletcher to pay homage to the original movie.
