The world’s current focus is on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the unlikely hero who has emerged is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Netflix viewers can now stream Season 1 of "Servant of the People," the satirical comedy series that actually launched Zelenskyy into his political career.
In the series, Zelenskyy plays a high school history teacher who records a viral video rant about the corrupt Ukrainian government and then becomes the president himself. In an example of life imitating art, Zelenskyy actually established the Servant of the People Party and won the presidential election in 2019.
Many media outlets have praised Zelenskyy’s comedic background as a force to be reckoned with against the self-serious Vladimir Putin, with The New Yorker saying he shows us how “wit and mockery can undermine brutal authority.” Seasons 2 and 3 of "Servant of the People" aren’t available yet on Netflix, but they hopefully will be in the near future.
