Tom Cruise’s performance as Navy aviator Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in 1986's "Top Gun" is remembered as the one that made him a movie star. One might expect that Cruise’s on-set behavior matches his eccentric tabloid headlines, but this is not so, reports Kelly McGillis, who played Charlie Blackwood in the film.
McGillis, who will not be returning for the sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick,” recalled, "He is very genuine and sincere and respectful. And I just loved working with Tom. I think he is wonderful." McGillis also admitted that she hasn't kept in touch with her former co-stars and appeared somewhat ambivalent about watching the sequel.
"We just had a good time. We all hung out, and we would play tennis and basketball, and it was just fun,” said McGillis of shooting “Top Gun.” She has positive memories of the set where everyone worked together and played together afterward, comparing it to summer camp.
