By ZACHARY LEEMAN

Marvel often hires unexpected directors to helm their movies, and the director for one of their more divisive films was no exception. Chloé Zhao, the director of “Eternals,” has reached the milestone of being the most-awarded female director in movie history.

zhao took a more mystical and pensive route with "Eternals" compared to the average mcu film, and it divided critics and audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is at 47% amongst critics, while the user approval is much higher at 78%.

Before directing “Eternals,” Zhao was known for smaller independent movies, until she found mainstream awards success with 2020’s “Nomadland,” for which she won Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars. To date, she has won 154 accolades in total for her films, while the runner up is “The Power of the Dog” director Jane Campion, with 128 wins.
