Happy Accident
By COREY HOFFMEYER
Tom Ellis portrays the titular character in the hit series “Lucifer,” which follows the devil as he uses his abilities to solve violent crimes. You wouldn't think such a show would involve singing, but some of its most memorable scenes have a musical twist, and they wouldn't have happened at all if it weren’t for this happy accident.
In an interview with Fair Game, Ellis said that he wasn’t originally going to sing on the show, until one fateful work trip to a karaoke bar. Ellis had drank some alcohol and decided that singing karaoke was a good idea, but once the showrunners heard him, they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have Lucifer sing as well.
Lucifer’s many singing scenes soon became an integral part of the show that fans adored. The series even had a musical episode in Season 5 with "Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam," which naturally featured Ellis belting out the tunes — and in case you're curious, his real-life karaoke song of choice is "Mustang Sally" by Wilson Pickett.
