The Tragic Reason Dr. Kapoor Was Written Off New Amsterdam

By DEEPAYAN SENGUPTA

Luminary Indian performer Anupam Kher was one of the key cast members of the NBC medical drama “New Amsterdam.” Fans were quite disappointed to learn of Dr. Kapoor’s departure from the show in Season 3, but the performer himself has now spoken up about his exit from the series.

On April 1, 2021, Anupam Kher revealed on Twitter that his wife, Kirron Kher, a well-known performer and politician, had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare type of blood cancer that affects plasma cells. A few weeks later, Kher tweeted another statement, announcing his departure from "New Amsterdam."

In "New Amsterdam" Season 3, Dr. Vijay Kapoor (Anupam Kher) contracted COVID-19, with much of the early part of the season revolving around his illness. However, in the season's seventh episode, the staff learn that Dr. Kapoor will not be returning to New Amsterdam hospital at all, signaling the end of Kher's time on the show.
