With the premiere of “House of the Dragon,” people are once more invested in the world of “Game of Thrones.” While most of the first episode deals with conflicts within King Viserys’ court and his struggle to find a suitable heir, a tiny detail about him hints that he might have even bigger issues.
As the episode comes to a close, Viserys condemns Daemon for labeling his late son as "the heir for a day," then cuts himself on the Iron Throne. Readers of George R. R. Martin’s books know that unworthy occupants of the Throne tend to get themselves cut on it more easily, but there's another significant detail to this wound that many might’ve missed.
Viserys is later seen sporting a bandage around the cut on his pinky finger, which fans have seen as a reference to the Hand of the King — specifically the conniving Littlefinger from “Game of Thrones.” Since Viserys is also suffering from a back wound given by the Throne, it’s possible that he could die from or get further weakened by such infected cuts.
