"Sonic the Hedgehog" was a surprise hit for Paramount, raking in over $300 million at the box office. It was a no-brainer for the studio to release a sequel, but Paramount has even bigger plans in store for Sonic and his friends.

Paramount plans to use the sequel as a springboard to kick off the Sonic Cinematic Universe. In February 2022, Paramount and Sega confirmed that "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" is on the way, and a spin-off series following Idris Elba's Knuckles will head to Paramount+.

There's also an internet rumor that a solo "Tails" movie is in development, but Paramount hasn't commented on the matter. For the moment, “Sonic” fans can get excited, because the future looks bright for the Sonic Cinematic Universe.
