It’s been three years since “Avengers: Endgame” was released in theaters, but some fans still have qualms about how the film weakened the Hulk by turning him into Professor Hulk. The Russo Brothers' reasoning behind going with the diluted version of the character was simple — and brutally honest.
According to the Russo Brothers, there just wasn't anything creatively available for the OG Hulk to do in "Endgame" that would have helped advance the story. "We nerfed the Hulk," joked Joseph Russo in an interview. "We just didn't know what to do with him," he added.
The scripts originally called for the Hulk to go through the Professor Hulk arc in "Infinity War," during the Battle of Wakanda. Screenwriter Christopher Markus said, "We wrote it, we shot it, [...] and he achieved union with the Hulk while inside the Hulkbuster. He kicked Cull Obsidian's a**. But it didn't work. It was the wrong tone for the movie."
