The Massive
Hobgoblin Mistake
That Sony And
Marvel Studios
Need To Avoid
By PAULI POISUO
MCU’s Spider-Man has fought against some formidable opponents but there's one heretofore unseen but incredibly fitting candidate for the next major villain: Hobgoblin. While Hobgoblin would be a great addition, Marvel Studios and Sony need to avoid making one easy and potentially catastrophic mistake.
They absolutely, positively cannot allow current Spidey best friend Ned Leeds, who is played by Jacob Batalon, to become the Hobgoblin (which Batalon has hinted at on his Instagram feed.) Ned is one of the most likable characters in the MCU and the comic books, the character's comic book supervillain career was actually just an in-universe misdirection created by the real Hobgoblin.
That's not to say Ned needs to be entirely absent from the Hobgoblin plot line. In the comics, Ned is essentially brainwashed to believe that he's the Hobgoblin, the MCU could take a similar avenue, ensuring his villainy would be temporary and it would also be a handy way to bring Ned back in Peter Parker's life.
