Freeform's teen drama anthology series "Cruel Summer" premiered its first season on April 20, 2021, and chronicled the mysterious disappearance of a popular high school girl. Given the show’s target demographic, many viewers may not be aware that one of its cast members once starred on the early 2000s sitcom, “My Wife and Kids,” which featured Damon Wayans.
Before Brooklyn Sudano began playing bar owner Angela Prescott on "Cruel Summer," she got her start as a TV actress with her leading role in “My Wife and Kids,” joining the cast as Vanessa Scott-Kyle in Season 4 and continuing through the sitcom’s fifth and final season. Her character was pregnant and became a teen parent, along with the father-to-be, Michael, aka “Junior.”
During an interview with LRM Online in May 2021, Sudano discussed “Cruel Summer” and said, "I think that the writing and the storytelling, they give you just enough on every little beat in every scene to keep it moving forward and for you [to want] to know a little bit more." She then went on to praise the talented cast, noting that everyone gave it their all.
