As the title implies, the CBS series "Mom" is about family, especially the relationship between Christy (Anna Faris), her estranged mother Bonnie (Allison Janey), and their issues with substance abuse. The concept sounds drab for a comedy, but the cast of characters is truly hilarious and heartwarming — except for one.
Christy is a mom to two kids, Roscoe (Blake Garrett Rosenthal) and Violet (Sadie Calvano). Though Violet left the show in Season 4, she returned in Season 6, Episode 8, "Jell-O Shots and the Truth about Santa," in which Christy discovers a podcast where a woman complains about her horrible mom — and yes, it's Violet on the podcast.
Christy is not a perfect mom, but some fans were incredibly cross with Violet. u/VisibleCoat995 on Reddit wrote, "[I] have never disliked a character as much as I dislike Violet right now. I can understand having an outlet for your traumas [...] [But] this episode also showed me that Violet is as narcissistic and detached from reality as she ever was."
other fans concurred with this sentiment, but with a gentler nuance: several Reddit users said that Violet can process her childhood how she wants and cut ties with her mother, but she should recognize that Christy is a different, better person at the present. As one Redditor said, "If you don't believe people can change, your life is going to suck."
