Season 4, Episode
7 Explained
By EAMMON JACOBS
“Stranger Things,” Season 4 tells Eleven's (Millie Bobby Brown) arc through flashback sequences that are vital to the season. They reveal what she went through in the Hawkins lab and build to a shocking revelation in Episode 7 about one of the other children experimented on by Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine).
In flashbacks of young Eleven at the lab, her only friend is an orderly named Peter Ballard (Jamie Campbell), who reveals his true identity as the son of Victor Creel (Robert Englund). Victor thought it was a "demon" who was causing chaos, but it was his son, and he became the first candidate in Benner’s experimental program: number One.
It’s also Peter, not Eleven, who is responsible for the massacre at the lab, and when she discovers this, it turns into a telekinetic battle between the two. This ends with Eleven pinning Peter to a wall and blasting him until he disintegrates and is thrown into the Upside Down.
It’s here that Peter transforms into Vecna, attempting to get revenge on Eleven and Brenner before he makes his claim on the rest of the world. Eleven is responsible for Peter (aka One) becoming Vecna, a brilliant cliffhanger to end "Stranger Things" Season 4, Vol. 1
