That Cameo
In Star Trek:
Strange New Worlds
Means More
Than You Think
By ALEXANDER BILLET
From the reinterpretation of beloved characters to the countless Easter eggs, "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" is a treat for any long-term "Star Trek" fans. In the very first episode fans got to see James Kirk’s brother Sam Kirk, and while it seemed like a fun little tease, the cameo might signify much more than you think.
In the first episode of "The Original Series," Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise receive a distress call from Deneva, a Federation colony, requesting help with fighting a deadly mind parasite, and among those residing in the colony is James' brother, George Samuel Kirk. Unfortunately, when the rescue party arrives James finds Sam is already dead.
The events of "The Original Series" first episode takes place, about a decade after those of "Strange New Worlds." This means that there is now a second character on board Pike's Enterprise whose doom has been foretold to us, which means we should also pay careful attention to the story arc of Captain Christopher Pike.
