Squid Game
Creator Has Some
Bad News For
Fans About
Season 2
By CAROLYN JENKINS
Fans will have to wait longer than anticipated for the second season of Netflix’s massive global hit, “Squid Games.” While the new season will thankfully not be in development for ten years like the first season was, Vanity Fair has reported that it will not be released until 2023, or even 2024.
While the news may be disappointing, fans can anticipate the return of Lee Jung-jae as Gi-hun and new games in Season 2. Along with delving deeper into the themes of class and social obligation, series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk told Vanity Fair that the new season will deal with the question, “Is true solidarity between humans possible?”
Season 1 ended with the cliffhanger of Gi-hun being able to fly to the U.S. with his winnings to start fresh with his daughter, but he was battling the guilt over his victory as he knows that the games are still going on. He can't let it go, and viewers will have to patiently wait to find out what, if anything, comes of his guilt in Season 2.
