Robert Eggers Admits This Is His Worst Film

By BROOKE KNAPPENBERGER
"The Northman" director Robert Eggers is a relatively new filmmaker, and his first two feature films, “The Witch” and "The Lighthouse,” have both shot his name to fame. He's a fairly unconventional director, submerging viewers in historical periods and terrifying them with creative atmospheres and spooky sounds.
Of all his films, Eggers himself has surprisingly harsh criticism for "The Witch," and he argues that it’s technically his worst movie, despite the film's critical acclaim. Eggers explained, “It's not that it's bad, and the performances are great, but I was not skilled enough as a filmmaker to get what was in my brain onto the screen."
The director feels he was able to accomplish this in "The Lighthouse," and while he is proud of "The Northman," he acknowledges that not every part of it is what he hoped to achieve. Eggers sees this as motivation to keep making films, stating, "I would like to do something with the scope and scale that I can actually get what's in my imagination onto the screen."
