Pee-Wee Herman’s Paul Reubens Dead at 70

Comedian Paul Reubens, known for his role as the children's entertainment character Pee-wee Herman, died July 30, 2023 at the age of 70 after a six-year stint with cancer.
Reubens’ estate shared a message on social media, “Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens [...] whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children.”
The message goes on, “Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit. [...] He will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts.”
Reubens’ diagnosis was not public knowledge prior to news of his death. The post from the estate included a posthumous statement, “Please accept my apology for not going public.”
The late comedian shared how he “always felt a huge amount of love and respect from [his] friends, fans and supporters.”
The majority of his career is based on his character Pee-wee Herman, which he portrayed for nearly 40 years. The character was consistent, however, the actor played other roles.
