Currently in the midst of its fourth season, "New Amsterdam" remains one of the best primetime medical dramas on television. The fact that the series has been influential in more ways than one and has amassed a large following over the years makes NBC’s decision heartbreaking.

Unfortunately, NBC has just announced that "New Amsterdam” has been canceled. The show will proceed with Season 5 as scheduled, as it had already been renewed for a three-season order back in 2020.

However, Season 5 will only consist of 13 episodes, marking the shortest season of the show's run. The upside is that fans still have some time left with the doctors at New Amsterdam hospital, and even with a truncated final season, the show will have a chance to tie up the loose ends.
