Law & Order: SVU
Fans Are
Outraged With
Olivia Benson
By JONAH SCHUHART
"Law & Order: SVU" fans have rallied behind Captain Olivia Benson, who has devoted her career to preventing and punishing sexual assault and rape cases. This is rooted in Benson's history as the victim of Burton Lowe (Aidan Quinn), who groomed and assaulted her when she was just a teen, but fans have become somewhat outraged with her recent decision involving Lowe.
After reconnecting with Lowe, who attempts to turn a new leaf, the typically rapist-hating Benson decides to defend her abuser instead of his victims. In many fans' eyes, Benson would never defend a rapist under any circumstances and would never go so far as to defend the man who abused her.
Some unhappy fans took to Twitter, referencing some of the threats Benson has lobbed at sex offenders in past episodes as examples of how her actions in Season 23, Episode 21 are out of character. Benson and Lowe's story isn't completely over yet, and upcoming episodes of "Law & Order: SVU" may show a different turn of events.
