"Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" can be an emotionally tasking watch, but it hasn't turned audiences away, thanks largely to the chemistry of Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni). It came as a major shock when Meloni left in 2011, but now he has returned to the “Law and Order” franchise, to much fanfare.

"SVU" fans have always wondered if Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler will ever become romantically involved — dubbing the pair "Bensler." Seeing as how Stabler’s wife, Kathy, died on the Season 22 episode “Return of the Prodigal Son,” many think Bensler will finally happen.

Hargitay recently said that her character has “been in love with [Stabler] for many a year,” but that she plans to give him time to grieve first. Of course, their 10-year split has undoubtedly hurt Benson in ways that have yet to heal, but perhaps we will see them become a couple someday soon.
