By JASON CONNOLLY
It’s been 25 years since Johnny Depp stepped behind the camera, but for the first time since the 1997 feature film "The Brave," he’s going to direct a movie. The film that will feature his return as a director is titled “Modigliani,” a biopic centered on the life of Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani.
“Modigliani” is based on a play written by Dennis McIntyre and Depp said he is “incredibly honored, and truly humbled” to be working on the project. He describes the movie as “a universally human story all viewers can identify with.”
Filming will start in the spring of 2023, somewhere in Europe, with a cast list that has yet to be revealed. Depp will be producing the movie along with other big-name celebrities Al Pacino and Barry Navidi.
