“Wednesday,” the upcoming Netflix series directed by Tim Burton, will bring the Addams family back to screen once more. Jenna Ortega of “You” plays the titular Wednesday Addams, and the actor has spoken out about a trait of the character that she wants to bring to the forefront of the new show.
Unlike previous actors who have portrayed Wednesday, Ortega is of Mexican-Puerto Rican descent, and she explains that “Wednesday is technically a Latina character, and that's never been represented.” A sneak peek of the new series shows the family celebrating Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead.
Fellow cast member Luis Guzmán, who plays charming husband and father Gomez Addams, is also representing his community and carrying on the legacy of the late Raul Julia. “It’s pretty ironic that I got the first Raul Julia award ever in Puerto Rico," Guzmán said in an interview with Latino Thought Makers.
