It's Time To Talk About That Will Smith Reference In Sonic The Hedgehog 2

By NICK STANIFORTH

THIS STORY CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR "Sonic The Hedgehog 2."

SPOILER WARNING!

No one could’ve predicted this, but “Sonic The Hedgehog 2” has a reference that will have viewers recalling Will Smith’s Oscar Slapgate. While the reference would’ve been harmless pre-controversy, viewers who recognize the reference will probably have a “yikes” moment.
The setup of the major scene is that Sonic and Tails are running away from Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles. Sonic grabs a makeshift snowboard at one point, and as he speeds away from his pursuers down the mountain, he cockily says, "I make this look good."
The line is a quote from “Men in Black,” spoken by Will Smith’s J when he first dons the black suit and joins the titular organization. The “Sonic” creators obviously had no idea that Will Smith would be in the middle of a PR nightmare when the movie was released, which just means this was a case of very unfortunate timing.
