Is Austin
Butler Really
Singing
In Elvis?
By TIM LAMMERS
Biopics about famous singers can put the lead actor in a bit of a quandary over whether to lip-sync or embark on the difficult task of trying to replicate a music icon’s vocals. In a world overrun with Elvis Presley impersonators, Austin Butler had to make this nerve-racking decision which could cause him to potentially face ridicule from fans and critics if he fell short of expectations.
The film’s director Baz Luhrmann has confirmed that Butler sings the young Presley's songs in the movie. The director expressed that even before Butler took two years of vocal lessons, he was already capable of capturing Elvis' distinctive style as a singer.
As it turned out, Luhrmann wasn't the only person Butler impressed with his singing, Presley's granddaughter, actress Riley Keough took to Instagram to share a clip of Butler’s singing and her thoughts on how “beautiful” it is. "Elvis," which co-stars Tom Hanks as Presley's longtime manager Col. Tom Parker, premiered in theaters on June 23, 2022.
