Over the years, the long-running CBS police procedural show "NCIS" has aired plenty of episodes and story arcs and fans revere some more than others. A Season 2 episode stands out as an all-time classic by paying tribute to World War II veterans and features a real-life Army veteran who received military honors.
The Season 2 episode “Call of Silence” follows a WW II Marine veteran and Medal of Honor recipient named Ernie Yost who turns himself into the NCIS team and confesses the murder of his best friend in combat during the war. The episode earned huge praise from the fans for its wonderful writing and subtle foreshadowing.
Fans also praised its depiction of memory loss and the complexities of war. It is one of the series' most critically acclaimed episodes and Charles Durning (who played Yost) received an Emmy nomination for his guest role.
