How Much It

Cost To Attend
Harry Potter's
Hogwarts
By HELEN A. LEE
The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has been a hot topic of conversation ever since the "Harry Potter" book series was released. When the books were adapted into movies, fans everywhere found themselves wishing they could attend the school in real life and some even pondered the cost of tuition.
The economics blog Centives combined the average tuition cost for the best boarding schools in England in 2011 with the cost of materials required based on Harry's first letter and concluded that the first year of Hogwarts would cost $42,752. In 2015, another blog, Mic, used the exchange rate from Galleons to dollars and determined attending Hogwarts would cost $43,031 per year.
Both of those sources were deemed incorrect when J.K. Rowling tweeted "There's no tuition fee! The Ministry of Magic covers the cost of all magical education!" and gave fans the correct answer. Even without the tuition fee, Oxbridge college concluded materials would cost about $10,353.47 per year.
