Huge Splash On
The Internet

Mindy Kaling recently gave the public a first-hand look at “Velma,” her HBO Max "adults only" cartoon series centering around the iconic "Scooby-Doo" character Velma Dinkley. The actor, who serves as executive producer, voices the main character, and the internet can't stop talking about it.
This isn't definitely your grandmother’s Velma, and Kaling's animated series will not be for the faint of heart. The sneak peek showed the titular character, with a group of soaped-up naked women, looking down at a dead victim who had been scalped with her brains removed.
According to its official description, the series will be "an original and humorous spin that unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America's most beloved mystery solvers." Kaling directly addressed changes made to the latest iteration of Velma, including the fact that the character will be South Asian in the series, saying, "If people freak out about that, I don't care."
