Extreme Makeover: Home Edition - What Happened To Ty Pennington After The Show?
By VICTORIA MILLER
TV viewers were introduced to Ty Pennington in 2000 in TLC’s “Trading Spaces,” but he is best known as the host of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” from 2003 to 2012.
In 2020, Pennington made a return as a guest star when the show was briefly rebooted with Jesse Tyler Ferguson as the host. He gave Ferguson his blessing to take over the show.
In a 2021 interview on "Tamron Hall," Pennington explained his absence from the spotlight, “I was never home. My plants died; my cat left; my relationship sort of fell apart.”
He continued, “So I also knew that it was time to get my soul back, get my personality back, and spend time off of camera and rebuild my life.” That’s exactly what he did.
His reality TV resume is building back up. In recent years, Pennington has starred in “Ty Breaker,” “Battle on the Beach,” “Rock the Block,” and “Barbie Dream House Challenge.”
He has also launched a beachy home décor collaboration with At Home. In his personal life, Pennington got married at age 57 to Kelle Merrell in an intimate backyard ceremony.
