Actor Rami Malek won widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in the 2018 biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” even winning an Oscar for his efforts. However, many Queen fans are curious to know if he actually sang Mercury’s parts in the movie.
Malek’s vocals are indeed in the film, but they have been combined with those of Mercury and Marc Martel — another singer who is known for doing impressive covers of Queen songs. The result sounds exactly like Mercury’s enormous voice, and it's no surprise the film also won an Oscar for Best Sound Editing.
That being said, Malek didn’t rest on his laurels — he had to sing in front of two Queen members and undergo special training to talk exactly as Mercury did. It would be a daunting task for anybody to get the singer right, and Malek nailed it by the time the cameras were rolling.
