Nearly 30 years after the original film, “Hocus Pocus 2” premiered on Disney+ on September 30, 2022, bringing the Sanderson Sisters to Salem once more. Even though the sequel has just come out, fans are already speculating about a future third entry to the series, with Bette Midler saying she would sign on to play Winifred Sanderson in another film in a heartbeat.
It turns out that another “Hocus Pocus” project is already in the works; however, it’s most likely something that fans aren’t expecting. Producer David Kirschner has discussed a long-rumored stage adaptation of the original 1993 “Hocus Pocus” film, stating, “This started before Covid, but now it seems to be back on ... They are building a Broadway version of ‘Hocus Pocus.’”
Rumors of a play adaptation have been circling for some time now, with “Hocus Pocus” director Kenny Ortega stating, “I’d love to do ‘Hocus Pocus’ on Broadway ... I think a ‘Hocus Pocus’ musical would be great fun.” Little is known about the “Hocus Pocus” musical, but it seems like it will be a stage adaptation of the original film’s plot rather than another installment.
