“Blonde” — which takes inspiration from Joyce Carol Oates’ fictionalization of Monroe’s life rather than the actress herself — is already causing major waves with its NC-17 rating and reports of explicit scenes. Ana de Armas, who has been wildly praised for her portrayal of Monroe, has a surprising prediction about the film’s fate.
In an interview with Variety, De Armas predicted that the film, specifically her nude scenes, will be taken out of context by the internet. In the interview, de Armas said, “I know what’s going to go viral, and it’s disgusting. It’s upsetting just to think about it. I can’t control it…I don’t think it gave me second thoughts; it just gave me a bad taste to think about the future of those clips.”
De Armas went on to say, “I did things in this movie I would have never done for anyone else, ever. I did it for [Marilyn], and I did it for Andrew,” referring to the film’s director Andrew Dominik. De Armas’ predictions are more significant considering Monroe herself often spoke out against attempts at exploiting her image and popularity, and refused projects she didn’t resonate with.
