Blonde's NC-17

The new Netflix film “Blonde” based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates about screen icon Marilyn Monroe has been given an NC-17 rating for what the MPAA calls “some sexual content.” The controversial rating can act as a commercial liability by limiting the potential audience for a movie, a factor that is unexplored territory for Netflix — until now.
While those who have read the book agree it has plenty of graphic scenes, Ana de Armas, who stars in the movie as Norma Jeane, a fictionalized version of Monroe’s real-life identity, feels the content of the film was justified. In an interview with L’Officiel, de Aramas said it was important to include certain details to explain Marilyn and her life, but questioned the rating.
"I didn't understand why that happened," de Armas said of the film's NC-17 rating. "I can tell you a number of shows or movies that are way more explicit with a lot more sexual content than 'Blonde.'" The actress added that the actual content of the film is justified, but audiences will get to decide for themselves when the film hits Netflix on September 28, 2022.
