Experience

Sezin has been working in publishing on both the writing and editorial sides since 2002, and shifted almost exclusively to writing about pop-culture in 2018 when she joined the Black Girl Nerds movie and TV review team. A horror aficionada essentially since birth, much of Sezin's pop-culture analysis has explored the dark beauty and raw power of this oft-maligned genre as seen in her writings for Black Girl Nerds, Bitch Magazine, Wear Your Voice, Huffington Post, and more. She wrote her first horror novel "American Monsters" at 20, and it finally got picked up by indie publisher Ghostwoods Books in 2011, over a decade later. She released her second novel "Crime Rave" in 2017 independently. Sezin joined Looper in June of 2019 and has been exploring her love of a variety of visual media, but in particular her most favorite horror shows "American Horror Story" and "Dexter." When she's not writing about movies and television, she tends to the endangered monarch butterfly sanctuary in her yard as well as rescuing badly wounded orchids and bringing them back to life, kind of like Hannah McKay.

Education

Sezin studied cultural anthropology at Occidental College with a particular focus on an anthropology and sociology of film and television, which she integrated into her honor's thesis, an ethnographic exploration of the Southern California rave scene in the late '90s using the horror genre as a framework.
