  • Dustin has a masters in screenwriting and spent two years not only working on his dramatic writing skills, but also analyzing and breaking down scripts and finished movies/TV shows for coverage reports and observation.
  • Dustin has three years of experience writing for HilltopViews, a student-run publication at St. Edward's University that had the distinct feature of being autonomous from the university administration. Dustin worked his way from being a freelance writer to a staff writer and then an editor for the Life and Arts section, primarily focused on pop culture features and media reviews.
  • Dustin has recently turned his attention and focus to writing about the comic book industry, taking a passion for the media and writing for Comic-Watch. This includes reviews and pieces covering a variety of books and publishers, some of which have been pull quoted by various books' creative teams and publishers.

Experience

Dustin has worked as a pop culture writer and reviewer for close to half a decade, starting his career writing about TV and movies for his college newspaper before moving on to additional outlets such as Comic-Watch and ScreenRant. Some of Dustin's highlights include expansive coverage of the Austin Film Festival, SXSW, and numerous dives into indie comics and films. It was thanks to his review of the Austin Film Festival's 2017 opening film, Lady Bird, that Dustin was able to win the gold in TIPA's Critical Review competition. Along with writing about pop culture, Dustin is typing away at his TV pilots and comic scripts after placing in the second round of the Austin Film Fest's TV writing competition.

Education

Dustin's education is a healthy mix of academic study and experience, working the mediums he covers thanks to a bachelors in English Literature and a masters in Dramatic Writing.
