Experience

Brandon has been writing professionally since 2007, beginning with an internship at the Syracuse Post-Standard. While at Syracuse University, he co-founded an LGBTQ+ magazine called The Out Crowd in 2007. The magazine still exists today. Toward the end of his master's program, he moved to New York City and interned at Metrosource magazine, Out Traveler magazine, and (very briefly!) Mediapost Communications. Once he returned to his native Canada, he worked in a variety of roles while freelancing for outlets such as Monster Canada, Bell Media, Jobpostings magazine, Change.org, and more. In 2016, Brandon earned his Ph.D. and began working as a full-time professor, first in California and now in Massachusetts. He is currently a tenured associate professor who researches media content, media usage, and media's effects on individuals, relationships, and culture. He teaches courses on new media & society, new media & identity, media stereotyping, and gender & communication. Brandon also regularly writes pieces for Celadon Books.

Education

Brandon has a Ph.D. in communication, specializing in media, and an M.A. in magazine, newspaper, and online journalism. He also has a B.A. in political science that never gets used.
