Where Is Margaret Johnson From My 600-Lb Life Now?

TLC's reality television series "My 600-lb Life" follows several individuals who have taken it upon themselves to lose weight. These typically aren't simple things like eating better or working out and have crossed the territory of almost a medical necessity. According to UPMC, the medical condition known as morbid obesity causes a range of medical conditions, some being life-threatening. Morbid obesity is at least 100 pounds over the ideal weight, with symptoms such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, arthritis, and sleep apnea. These health issues, if left untreated, can often lead to congestive heart failure, coronary artery or heart disease, and depression. These are severe health conditions and must be treated if one is to live a full life.

According to Biography Research, Margaret Johnson appeared in Season 10 of "My 600-lb Life," and weighed over 750 pounds at the time. Johnson has a harrowing tale of childhood abuse, which she felt caused her condition. Almost immobile and mostly confined to wheelchairs and beds, Johnson depends on her mother to survive. Although Johnson proves to be quite receptive to the advice of Dr. Nowzaradan, she does struggle with the weight loss program prescribed to her, but in the end, she brought her weight down to 516 pounds, which qualified her for gastric bypass surgery. Since the surgery, Johnson has been absent from the television series. So, how is she doing, and what has she been up to?

Johnson's mother has shared an update through social media

The Mayo Clinic reports that gastric bypass surgery is an effective means of controlling one's weight, and involves creating a small pouch from the stomach that bypasses the rest of the stomach and some of the small intestine. This means that one simply can't eat nearly as much as they used to, as their digestive tract has been reduced in size, making feelings of satiation arrive much faster.

Although there hasn't been an official word regarding Margaret Johnson's current status at the time of this writing, TV Shows Ace posted what appears to be a social media response from Johnson's mother, Millie, which said, "I'm so sorry we haven't updated y'all on Margaret Johnson's progress. We are hopefully on that road to recovery this time. It has been an uphill battle non-stop since her surgery. In and out of the hospital and rehab many times since her surgery day! I will tell you that in nine months since she started her diet she has lost a total of over 340 lbs! Prayers are always appreciated. She still has a long road to go!"

This is fantastic news, considering that Us Weekly notes that 10 people who appeared on the show have died as of August 10, 2021. Hopefully, Millie's update means we will soon get an official appearance from Johnson in the spin-off series "My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?" to highlight her progress.
