New Footage From Pacific Rim Uprising Revealed
As if you needed an excuse to watch giant mechanical warriors do battle, Legendary Pictures released a new featurette for Pacific Rim Uprising.
The international video features new footage from the upcoming sequel to Guillermo del Toro's 2013 hit Pacific Rim, but it also has interviews with star John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and director Steven S. DeKnight.
The new film introduces Boyega as the new protagonist Jake Pentecost, son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost from the original movie.
"I loved the first Pacific Rim," Boyega says. "That classic tale of robots and that holds weight and that holds power. Everybody has felt that feeling when those monsters go through a city. It creates an instant excitement."
DeKnight said he's been a longtime fan of classic monster films and is ecstatic to bring that passion to the Pacific Rim universe. ""I grew up watching the old giant monster movies from Japan," he said. "The classic like Ultraman, Space Giants, and of course Godzilla. I just ate it up. With the technology we have, we have a chance to make it that much more spectacular. Ultimately it's a world conflict and everyone's putting aside their differences and come together."
Boyega, who also appears in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, said he did way more battle sequences for Pacific Rim Uprising. "I can announce that this is the most action that I've ever done," he said. "It's like getting a ticket to the best boxing match ever."
Pacific Rim Uprising opens March 23, 2018.
