My Dress-Up Darling's Author Had An Intense Reaction After Watching The First Episodes Of The Series

"My Dress-Up Darling" has achieved massive success on the back of its first season alone. In fact, the series has even approached the popularity of mega-hit anime like "Attack on Titan." Based on the manga of the same name, the series has been widely embraced by fans, and a special event has been put together with the voice actors behind "My Dress-Up Darling" just to give viewers even more to love (via Comic Book).

The series follows Wakana Gojo (Shoya Ishige/Paul Dateh), a shy and introverted teen who begins to come out of his shell following a chance encounter with popular, outgoing Marin Kitagawa (Hina Suguta/Amanda Lee). As the two begin to bond over cosplay, manga, and anime, they also develop feelings for one another. While fans have been head over heels for the adaptation of "My Dress-Up Darling," Shinichi Fukuda, who wrote and illustrated the manga series, has had an intense reaction of their own to the anime.

The manga creator was blown away by the first two episodes

Shinichi Fukuda is over the moon for "My Dress-Up Darling. The mangaka confessed that they rewatched the first two episodes over and over again and couldn't be happier with the quality of the series (via Anime Hunch). "I received the first and second episodes of the complete packet of the anime and watched them. Everything was so good that I cried with emotion," Fukuda said. "I watched it over and over again for a total of 13 hours, so happy and joyful that I have never been happier in my life as a manga artist."

Since adaptations aren't always this well-received by their creators, the team behind "My Dress-Up Darling" is obviously doing something right. As if the news that Fukuda cried with joy wasn't already enough, the fact that they spent a staggering 13 hours watching what amounts to roughly 45 minutes of anime is about as enthusiastic a response as one could hope for.

Furthermore, Fukuda's opinion of the series is a stark turnaround from the almost numb response the overworked creator originally had to the adaptation. "I was tired after the deadline, and I had been up all night and was not thinking straight, so I had a vague feeling that it was someone else's problem," Fukuda said. "I thought it was something that would never happen to me in my life, so I didn't feel it at all." While it's natural to have a bit of cooling off period before appraising such huge news about your work, it's nice to know that Fukuda came around on the anime version of "My Dress-Up Darling" and is now able to enjoy it just as much as the fans do.
