Watch The Emotional Trailer For Jason Katims' New Series Rise

Josh Radnor is back on TV. The How I Met Your Mother star appears in the first trailer for the upcoming drama series Rise, which comes from Parenthood and Friday Night Lights writer Jason Katims.

The show is based on the 2013 book Drama High, which followed drama teacher Lou Volpe and the inner workings of a high school theater department in a Rust Belt town in Pennsylvania. On the show, Lou, played by Radnor, is an inspirational English teacher and left-of-center father of three who decides to take over the drama department, something which ignites his passion and inspires the town's students.

"Being a teenager is hard," Lou says at the start of the trailer. It then introduces some of the students he will be working with, including Lilette (Auli'i Cravalho), whose mother may be having dating another teacher, and Robbie (Damon J. Gillespie), whose plans for college are derailed when he learns his mother is in the hospital. "I had this vision that Stanton High School could be different," Lou says. "I believe it can be. Right now, let's dream big."

Rosie Perez, Sergio King, Shannon Purser, Erin Kommor, and Ellie Desautels also star in Rise. The show is set to premiere on Tuesday, March 13 at 10 p.m. on NBC following the season finale of This Is Us; it will move to its regular 9 p.m. time slot on March 20.
