The Number Of Times Dean Winchester Died On Supernatural Is Truly Staggering

"Supernatural" is easily amongst the most successful series that The CW has ever produced. Powered by an insanely dedicated fanbase (via Medium), the series aired for an astounding 15 seasons. However, when a serialized show runs for that long, the writers have to occasionally leave fans with some plot lines they can't stand to raise the stakes and keep the ball rolling forward for its characters.

Though the road trip format of the show helped to keep things varied when it came to making the threats of the various paranormal entities that Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) went up against feel real and visceral, said villains often ended up threatening the lives of the Winchester brothers, leading to some unfortunate — and sometimes irreparable — results. Though both brothers succumbed to death willingly and unwillingly throughout the course of "Supernatural," elder brother Dean died a lot more often than his younger sibling.

Dean has died over 110 times

Though fans seem to disagree on what counts as a death, most sources agree that during the entire run of "Supernatural," Dean died over 110 times (via Film Daily). While this absurdly high number is primarily due to Season 3, Episode 11 ("Mystery Spot"), an episode that sees Dean die more than 100 times in a single hour, the elder Winchester brother still dies many times outside of that. Fans will recall that "Mystery Spot" centers on a time-loop that sees Dean dying continuously while a hapless Sam tries to get to the heart of the strange phenomenon. Naturally, like in "Groundhog Day," many of the deaths are played for laughs, even if Sam's distress at the situation is still very understandable.

Regardless, the first instance of Dean's death is in Season 2, when a car wreck leaves him on life support. Notably, his father, John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), trades his life and soul to Azazel to save his son. This factor further exacerbates the animosity between the Winchester brothers and the demon. Of course, Dean's final death comes at the end of the series. Fortunately, he's reunited with his brother in heaven, giving the brothers a happy ending. While the spin-off series "The Winchesters" will provide fans with a more in-depth look at the lives of the deceased Winchester parents, John and Mary, hopefully, they won't have to watch the two die too many times along the way.
