Teaser Trailer Released For The Strangers: Prey At Night
Almost ten years after the release of the first film, Bryan Bertino's real-life inspired The Strangers is finally getting a sequel—and you can watch the first trailer for the movie now.
Set in a deserted trailer park, The Strangers: Prey at Night follows a family being attacked by a gang of unknown masked people after embarking on a road trip to visit relatives. Like the first movie, the killers appear to strike randomly, for no reason—and they appear to be the exact same people this time around, owing to their very familiar masks.
The sequel has been in the works since shortly after the release of the first sleeper hit, but failed to materialize before being revived by 47 Meters Down director Johannes Roberts. The screenplay is credited to the original film's Bertino, with a rewrite by Ben Ketai, who previously penned the horror works The Forest and 30 Days of Night: Dark Days.
Though the villainous characters from the first movie appear to be the same, the sequel features an entirely new cast, led by Mad Men's Christina Hendricks as Cindy. The movie also stars Martin Henderson, Lewis Pullman, and Bailee Madison, with Emma Bellomy, Damian Maffei, and Lea Enslin taking on the role of the three murderous strangers.
Like the first movie, the trailer for the sequel bills it as being "based on a true story", but it's better to say that the series is based on a true concept: burglary, and also murder. In real life, there is no recorded incident of masked strangers killing everybody in a trailer park before deciding to hunt down Joan from Mad Men. At least, not yet.
The Strangers: Prey at Night will be out in theaters in March 2018.
