The Brooklyn Nine-Nine Star You Likely Didn't Know Voiced Gravity Falls' Darlene
Alex Hirsch's critically-acclaimed animated series "Gravity Falls" follows the misadventures of Dipper and Mabel Pines (voiced by Jason Ritter and Kristen Schaal, respectively) as they explore the mysterious supernatural phenomena within the small town of Gravity Falls, Oregon. Considering all the sheer number of weird and surreal events that take place throughout this small woodland town, it should come as no surprise that the show is host to a plethora of uniquely strange side characters you wouldn't find anywhere else on television.
A few notable examples include the aggressive one-handed lifeguard Mr. Poolcheck (voiced by Michael Rianda), a living, mustachioed hexagon named Hectorgon (voiced by "Over the Garden Wall" creator Patrick McHale), and the elusive Multi-Bear: a creature with eight bear heads and twelve limbs, who also happens to be voiced by Alfred Molina. In any case, it's clear that the series is jam-packed with wacky otherworldly characters — and it just so happens that one of the series' strangest characters is actually voiced by a star from NBC's beloved comedy series "Brooklyn Nine-Nine."
Chelsea Peretti plays the human/spider hybrid named Darlene
The character in question is Darlene –- an employee at the tourist trap known as Mystery Mountain who appears in the Season 2 episode "Roadside Attraction." She's voiced by none other than Chelsea Peretti, who's most well-known for her performance as Gina Linetti on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." She's the precinct's sarcastic and egotistical civilian administrator, whose narcissism is so extreme that she was once described as a psychological anomaly by a group of professors.
In "Roadside Attraction," Darlene appears as a short-lived love interest for Grunkle Stan (voiced by Alex Hirsch), although this ends abruptly when it's revealed that she is actually a half-human half-spider hybrid known as an "Arachnimorph." Darlene admits that she uses her human form to lure men into her lair and eat them, and she ends up trapping Stan in a large web before he is rescued by Dipper and Mabel.
Although fans of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" might not immediately recognize Peretti's voice (especially since she isn't delivering her lines in Gina's bored, sardonic tone), once you recognize her it's hard to hear anybody else.
