Fans Agree That This Character Ruined Jurassic Park 3

The "Jurassic Park" franchise has now expanded to six films, which means there's a roster of characters that go beyond the original trio of Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum).

Several new additions are introduced in 2001's "Jurassic Park 3," including Paul Kirby (William H. Macy) and his ex-wife Amanda Kirby (Téa Leoni), who call on Alan and Billy Brennan (Alessandro Nivola), his associate professor of paleontology. They desperately want help in finding their son Eric Kirby (Trevor Morgan) and Amanda's boyfriend Ben Hildebrand (Mark Harelik), who are missing on the restricted Isla Sorna – where InGen's dinosaurs were bred before heading to Isla Nublar, the site of the proposed dino theme park.

Despite "Jurassic Park 3" featuring the intense human-dinosaur altercations that audiences had come to love, including those with the bigger and badder Spinosaurus, this third installment faltered at the box office. While 2015's "Jurassic World" starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard garnered $208,806,270 on opening weekend, making it the top-grossing entry in the franchise, "Jurassic Park 3" is at the bottom of the pack with $50,771,645 (via Box Office Mojo).

A number of fans are in agreement that one particular character was responsible for the film's poor reception.

The constant screaming of Amanda Kirby was irritating for fans

On Reddit, when asked by u/peter095837 to name an extremely annoying character that ruined a movie, many shared the same response –- Amanda Kirby from "Jurassic Park 3." Throughout the duration of "Jurassic Park 3," this distraught mother is featured screaming her son's name — or her boyfriend's name — at the top of her lungs, oftentimes through a megaphone. Even after repeated warnings from dino expert Alan that her shouts will attract unwanted company, such as the Spinosaurus and Tyrannosaurus Rex, the message doesn't seem to resonate.

u/Cbtexpert521 said, "All she did was scream and draw attention to them and get people killed the entire movie. First time I can remember a character in a movie genuinely p***ed me off." Some viewers, like u/Adrian_1827, weren't pleased with Amanda's happy ending. "I was so mad that she survived lmao," they commented. A third Redditor agreed and wrote, "If they'd actually killed off her character I'd have at least been mollified, but she was so stupid and obnoxious and then survived! What the hell?" As for u/Captain_Davidius, it wasn't just Amanda that ruined "Jurassic Park 3." According to that user, "That whole film was a trainwreck."

Such negative feedback might be difficult for an actor to digest, but it seems Téa Leoni is embracing her character's ear-splitting habit. In honor of the 20th anniversary of "Jurassic Park 3" in 2021, the actress retweeted some set photos and joked, "Best screaming of my career."
