Is TMNT: Shredder's Revenge Cross-Platform?

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge" — a side-scrolling beat-em-up based on the iconic IP — released on June 16 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. And thus far, things seem to be going well for the retro-style action game. Though not without a few issues here and there, critics have lauded the game for staying true to its arcade roots while adding enough innovation and updates in order to provide a fresh experience for players old and new.

Because of the style of game developer Tribute Games was going for — an old school arcade experience — playing with friends is a huge component for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge," and the game supports co-op play for up to 6 players. With cross-play between different platforms gradually becoming more of a staple in modern multiplayer gaming these days, many may be wondering if "Shredder's Revenge" will support cross-play between all platforms.

To put it simply, "TMNT: Shredder's Revenge," does support cross-play, but it's perhaps not as extensive as some would like.

Cross-play is only supported between Xbox and PC

In an email sent from Tribute Games in response to a question about cross-play (per Reddit), the developer clarified that "currently, cross-play will only be supported between PC (Steam and Windows Store) and Xbox." This eliminates anyone on other platforms, such as the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, from being able to squad up with Xbox and PC players. It also isolates their co-op playthrough to their own console family.

However, not all hope is lost. Tribute Games did leave the door open for the game's current cross-play limitations to change down the line, saying: "It's not out of the question that we will open this up at a later date but for now there is no cross-play between consoles."

So, there is indeed hope for fans of "TMNT: Shredder's Revenge" to eventually be able to play with their friends on other consoles in the future. But for now, only Xbox and PC players can cross paths in the battle against the wicked forces of Dimension X.
