Fans Are Rolling Their Eyes At Bail Organa's Big Mistake In Obi-Wan Kenobi Part V

Contains spoilers for "Obi-Wan Kenobi" Episode 5

Since Disney+'s original "Star Wars" series "Obi-Wan Kenobi" is a prequel to the first "Star Wars" movie, the majority of viewers effectively know the fates of most of its principal players. Some of its biggest moments, then, are driven by characters who are either known only to fans of the larger "Star Wars" universe outside of the mainline films, or new to the show entirely.

For example, the Imperial Inquisitors that serve as the series' main villains may not be familiar to those with knowledge of only the live-action "Star Wars" entries, but seasoned viewers should recognize some of the Inquisitors from various animated and illustrated "Star Wars" materials. Among them, Third Sister Reva (Moses Ingram) is a new addition to "Star Wars" canon as of the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series premiere. Her backstory, therefore, plays an important part in Episode 5, driven by the fact that viewers know no more about her than what is revealed in "Obi-Wan."

That said, on a few notable occasions, "Obi-Wan" plays with its known quantities in new and surprising ways. For example, a mid-season fight versus Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen) ends with Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) sustaining some serious, albeit temporary injuries. Episode 5 likewise includes a moment in which the prequel trilogy's Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits) commits a grave mistake, leaving a number of fans outright perplexed.

Bail Organa gives up Luke Skywalker with an unforced error

In "Obi-Wan Kenobi" Episode 5, Bail Organa sends a holographic message to Obi-Wan promising that he'll head to Tattooine and protect Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely) should Obi-Wan become incapacitated by the Empire. However, near the episode's end, Reva discovers this message, immediately putting Luke in danger, thanks in large part to the preponderance of details Organa handily spells out about Darth Vader's secret son.

In a discussion thread about the episode on Reddit, a number of users outright mocked Organa's lack of discretion in this moment. A comment by user NelloMC opening up the discussion about Organa's mistake paraphrases Organa for comedic effect, highlighting how he effectively gives up Luke to anyone other than Obi-Wan who might hear the message. In some ensuing replies, users mocked the number of specifics Organa provides that point to Luke's precise location, which are ultimately unnecessary for Obi-Wan but are revelatory to Reva.

For what it's worth, a number of users on Twitter, like @jediagents, praised Organa's vocal commitment to protecting Luke, despite his message ultimately ending up at odds with this goal.

In an interview with IndieWire, showrunner Joby Harold outright refused to share any details about Episode 6 in advance of its air date, so viewers anxious to learn how Organa's accidental reveal of Luke's hiding place matters moving forward will have to wait until Episode 6 premieres on June 22.
