The Fan Theory That Explains Rexy's Big Moment In Jurassic World Dominion
Contains spoilers for "Jurassic World Dominion"
As in all the movies in the "Jurassic Park" franchise, the main characters of "Jurassic World Dominion" inevitably end up being completely outmatched by the dinosaurs they're fighting. No matter how prepared Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and the rest of the so-called dinosaur experts might seem at the start of the film, their plans and training are never truly enough to counter the terrifying might of the ancient apex predators. Indeed, by the end, Owen and friends find themselves inexplicably cornered by a Giganotosaurus that they are wholly unprepared to fight.
Yet just as the beast is about to wipe out the entire team, the group is saved by none other than "Rexy" — a female Tyrannosaurus rex who played a major role in the original "Jurassic Park," saving Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), Lex Murphy (Ariana Richards), and Tim Murphy (Joseph Mazzello) from a pack of Velociraptors. Rexy returns to save the day once again in "Jurassic World Dominion," killing the hyper-lethal Giganotosaurus with the help of a second dinosaur known as the Therizinosaurus. Though at first the miraculous appearance of Rexy at the climax of the film may seem hard to believe, there is one fan theory floating around the Internet that claims her big moment in "Jurassic World Dominion" was inevitable from the start.
Rexy inexplicably saving the day is a staple of the series at this point
Several fans on Reddit claim that having Rexy fight another dinosaur is essentially a staple of the series at this point and that, as such, it was very easy to predict that she would (inevitably) show up to fight the Giganotosaurus in the film's climax. "The second they introduced that other big dino and emphasized how big it was, I was like oh so that's the dino that the [T. r]ex is gonna fight in the third act to save the day," wrote u/insane_troll_logic. "That [T. r]ex has been through some s***," agreed u/Roboticide. "Fought raptors in I, fought the Indominus in IV, fought Giganotosaurus in VI."
Other users asserted that Rexy has almost become a protagonist of the series in her own right, claiming that (like the rest of the series' protagonists) she manages to escape certain death plenty of times due to her importance to the story. "Talk about plot armor, [she] has it worst [sic] than the human characters," said u/Moquitto. "Rexy is like Ash's Pikachu," wrote u/jagfanjosh3252. "Doest [sic] matter if it takes on a legendary, it will win."
Although Rexy's appearance in "Jurassic World Dominion" does manage to bring the entire "Jurassic Park" storyline full circle in a rather poetic way, her role in the movie was hardly surprising — since many longtime fans know that seeing Rexy fight another dinosaur is an iconic tradition that has continued throughout the series.
