Diablo Immortal: How To Fill Bestiary Pages

"Diablo" might seem like a franchise of fairly straight-forward dungeon crawlers to the casual observer, but veteran players know that there is a complex mythology hidden beneath the loot-frenzied combat. An eternal war is being waged between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, and the mortal realm of Sanctuary sits in the middle. Players must battle the hordes of demons, monsters and undead in order to keep humanity safe from the forces of evil. Now, "Diablo Immortal" is entering into this complex timeline, fitting in somewhere between "Diablo 2" and "3." Critics have been hesitant to praise the PC and mobile title for its narrative and character development, but that doesn't mean that there isn't still plenty of lore for the player to uncover.

One of the main tools for learning more about the world of "Diablo" is the Horadic Bestiary. This log keeps track of the various monstrosities players will encounter in "Immortal." Not only does it give them background information about several of the creatures they will be facing, but it even rewards the player with loot along the way. Getting the Bestiary and filling its pages can be a little tricky, however. Here's how to do it.

Hunting beasties

The Bestiary is unlocked as part of the main storyline. A quest called "The Horadric Bestiary" will trigger while the player is working their way through the Dark Wood. They will have to fight several Fallen, but the quest will eventually lead them to interact with an altar where they can retrieve the book.

Filling the Bestiary is an excellent way for players to earn experience points early on in the game and there is even the potential to unlock a few legendary items. The process is simple, but tedious. In order to unlock new pages, players will need to collect 10 Monstrous Essences. These can be dropped by most creatures in the open world and it doesn't seem like there are higher drop rates in any specific areas, though they don't appear to drop in Challenge Rifts or Dungeons (per maxroll.gg.) This means that there are essentially two strategies for collecting Monstrous Essence. Players can either collect them organically as they progress through the story, or attempt to farm them in an area with lots of weaker monsters.

Leveling up the Bestiary

Once the player has 10 Monstrous Essences, they can return to a Horadic Alter or simply open their bestiary and exchange them for a new page. It's generally wise to do this right away, as the player cannot hold more than 10 Monstrous Essences at a time. It's also worth noting that this can only be done up to three times a day and that pages are received at random, so the pages that are unlocked aren't actually correlated to creatures the player has seen up until that point. In fact, it's possible to get multiple copies of the same creature. Unlocking a new page grants gold, Battle Points, various items, or Scrap Metals, and gives the player a shot at a Legendary Item (per Wowhead).

Exchanging Monstrous Essences to unlock new pages also contributes to the level of the Bestiary itself. This gives the player various bonuses to Life and Damage — definitely a useful tool to have when facing the legions of the Burning Hells.
