The Boys' Producer Fought To Keep That Huge Termite Scene In Season 3's Premiere

If you thought "The Boys" had peaked by having our team of Supe-hating heroes covered in whale blubber last season, the first episode of the show's third season wasted no time in putting that to bed — and covering said bed in blood and guts in the most jaw-dropping way imaginable. Going from Moby Dick to ... well, you know, "The Boys" once again showed an example of what can happen if superpowers are grossly misused. We're referring to the incomprehensible sexual act that saw the Ant-Man-like "hero" Termite crawl inside a guy's member, only to get the sneezes at the worst time imaginable (remember, kids: Don't do drugs).
Yet again, the show adapted from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's beloved and hugely uncouth comic book series reached new highs (or lows, depending on your viewpoint) that would make even "The Punisher" blush. However, it turns out that even the show where nothing is off-limits had an issue getting that huge Termite scene into the first episode. It just took some heroes behind the scenes to put their necks on the line.
Craig Rosenberg fought to keep the Termite's deep dive in The Boys
Speaking to Den of Geek, showrunner Eric Kripke highlighted the moment while spoiler dodging back in March: "The first 15 minutes of Episode 1 is by far the craziest thing we've ever done, like, by a mile. If I remember correctly, it came in reasonably late because it's this weird, almost like 'James Bond' opening. It has its own adventure [before you start] the new one."
After finally putting the fleshy pieces together, it's clear what he was referring to, and it's not that wild to compare it to a 007 pre-credit scene. Sex? Violence? An unimaginable explosion that you don't see coming? It's a cocktail that only this show would be able to pull off and one that producer Craig Rosenberg was adamant about keeping.
"There was a lot of talk, and not surprisingly, Craig Rosenberg — who brought you such things as 'dolphin through the windshield' and 'slamming a boat into a whale' — was fighting and fighting for that sequence, because I was like, 'Maybe ... or maybe we find some other one,' and he just was like, 'This is the one!' And he was just so passionate about it."
Well, thanks? The only thing to be concerned about now is whether it will be topped when "The Boys" returns to Amazon Prime next week.
