Tim Miller's Terminator Film Gets 2019 Release Date
The Terminator will be back on the big screen in 2019. Paramount announced Wednesday that they have set a July 26, 2019 release date for the latest entry in the franchise, which is set to be directed by Deadpool's Tim Miller. (via Deadline)
According to James Cameron, the upcoming film is set to be the start of a trilogy that will be a "continuation" of the story from Terminator and T2. The movie is said to treat the three films that preceded T2 as "a bad dream" or an alternate timeline. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton are both set to return for the movie, which Cameron says will be about "handing off the baton to a new generation of characters."
"We're starting a search for an 18-something young woman to essentially be the new centerpiece of these stories, " Cameron told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview. "And then a number of other characters around her and characters from the future. We still fold time in the story in intriguing ways. But we have Arnold's character and Linda's character to anchor it. Somewhere across there, and I won't say where, the baton gets passed, so to speak."
Despite the fact that the two central actors are aging, Cameron and Miller aren't worried. Miller says that he wants to see this version of the film "embrace" Schwarzenegger's age, and Cameron says that he is excited to make the "huge statement" of showing Sarah Connor as a "seasoned warrior." "We're both taking a risk," Cameron said of the film. "But I feel really confident."
