Star Trek: The Next Generation Gets An Honest Trailer
Star Trek may be back in the news now with Discovery, but Screen Junkies is going back to an oldie but a goodie for their latest Honest Trailer. The YouTube account took on Star Trek: The Next Generation in the most recent installment of the popular series.
"Before Star Trek: Discovery forces you to boldly subscribe where no one has subscribed before, celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Star Trek spin-off that gave rise to the ultimate nerd question: Kirk or Picard?" the narrator begins in the trailer, before introducing the show, which he calls the original series' "geeky younger brother."
The trailer then goes through the show's crew, knocking many of them for being one note, ending with Captain Picard, who the narrator describes as "the most British Frenchman in the galaxy." "Watch world-class actor Patrick Stewart remain fully committed to his dialogue, even when the writers clearly fell asleep on their keyboards," he says, before a montage of Stewart speaking the show's many foreign languages.
The trailer then goes on to talk about some of the new alien species introduced in the series, including the Kardashians, "omni-present leather-skin tyrants bent on galactic domination." (Oh sorry, he meant the Cardassians– not sure which one we prefer.) It also points out that, on this version of the Enterprise, "the future is woke... at least most of the time." It ends by going through some of the series' more dubious plot lines, concluding by asking: "Are we sure this is as good as we remember?"
Star Trek's latest entry, Discovery, is airing on CBS All Access now. If you're a fan of the series, see why The Next Generation meant more than you thought.
